When someone purchases my DVD, Basketball On A Triangle: A Higher Level of Coaching and Playing, it comes with two free e-books. One of those e-books is, “Balance And Control”, which is Book chapter 6, corresponding with Chapter 2 in the DVD.
One of my list members wrote to me, having purchased the DVD, noting that the book went into more detail than the DVD for that chapter and wondered if that was going to be the case with all the book chapters. Actually, that chapter is probably the only one with which that happened.
I originally wrote the book to be the detailed source for my teaching and created the DVD from that text in order to demonstrate what I am teaching. It’s easier to go into more detail in writing than it is to film every thing that I write. The book has three sections--two that detail my own background, philosophies, how to become a teaching-coach, how to work with youth, and more. The middle section of the book relates directly--nearly word-for-word—with the DVD.
The DVD was filmed during a 3-day coaches workshop, using the book as the text. That produced hundreds of hours of video from two cameras. So, when the editing was done, all of that film was condensed to 4 hours on two discs. It was impossible to cover every detail in the DVD that was covered in the book. It would have created a library and at a cost I could not have afforded.
From the beginning, my intent was to have the book and DVD used together as a combined teaching tool. In a perfect world, the reader would get all the background from the six book chapters not related to the DVD. The other ten chapters would be complemented by the DVD. However, no publisher could be found to take on this project.
So, the DVD hit the market first, while the book languished for lack of a publisher. While the DVD is very much a stand alone product (see testimonials http://www.top-basketball-coaching.com/dvd.html ), it is made stronger by combining it with the book.
Create Space is the company that produces the DVD on-demand, when one is ordered, and ships the 2-disc set any where in the world. Now, they also produce on-demand my 330 page book, with over 200 diagrams and pictures in it. The book may be ordered by itself or in combination with the DVD. When the book and DVD are ordered together, I was able to get a discount for my readers, that otherwise isn’t available, (http://www.top-basketball-coaching.com/paperback)
The book and DVD are the only physical products that are sent through the mail. These eventually gave rise to the 26 other products I have made available digitally.
Those people from around the world who purchased the DVD and have written to me about their experiences using it, can attest to the power of the teaching contained in the 4-hours of material. When you read the book, you will know that together the book and DVD form an exciting, detailed and complete teaching tool. If you able, get them both. If you already have the DVD, get the book. You’ll understand immediately what I’ve been saying here.
