Mentoring for Youth Basketball Coaches

"Ronn, I played basketball in high school and throughout my 25 years military career. Just now, I started teaching, and I have to tell you, that playing alone does not qualify or give the tools to anyone to be a good coach. With your instructional DVD I am already receiving all kind of accolades from organizers, parents, and most importantly from the kids. In only a few weeks the improvement has been incredible. Thank you for taking the time and effort to come up with such a valuable tool."

Who Is Teaching Coaches How To Coach?

For many decades, basketball coaches have attended clinics, workshops, camps, purchased books and tapes in order to further their coaching education.But rarely has a coach had the opportunity to get one-on-one with a lecturing coach or author.

More Information Specific To Your Situation

Than You Would Probably Get At A Clinic

BECAUSE THIS ABOUT YOU ONLY!!

1-ON-1

COACHES TUTORING

Is Now Available For
Novice or Experienced
Coaches

Most youth basketball coaches don't ever have an opportunity to get one-on-one guidance, trying to get what help they can from books, tapes or other coaches.

Here’s Your
Opportunity To Go 1-on-1!!

My one-on-one basketball coaches mentoring program gives you the question-and-answer time, on an individual basis, you may have long thought would have been valuable in understanding certain aspects of the information you heard, read or viewed.

But it's much more than just question-and-answer. Here's what you can expect:

  • We will talk on the telephone for up to an hour at a time;

  • We will use email correspondence (included in the hourly fee);
  • Via email, I will furnish resources, along with diagrams and pictures of teaching drills, to support what we discuss;
  • When you order any block(s) of time, you will receive discounts on the DVD or any of my videos or e-Books.

We will discuss how to teach within your chosen team system, without my recommending one system over another. A system must mirror the capabilities of the players you have to work with. However, teaching individual position specific skills is my forte so, I will work with you on how to present break-down drills in order to effectively teach your system.The right offense or defense is a coaching decision needing to be based on player personnel abilities. I always recommend matching any system to players' skill levels.

Time allotment in practices is critical and I will work with you on that. One of many resources you will receive in my mentoring program is a list of all the things that need to be accomplished between the first practice and the first game. It's a pretty daunting list of things.

The off-season is the time to teach all the individual skills and work on player development, so that these things don't only need review, rather than needing to be taught during the season. We will cover this as well.

Some Testimonials From Former Clients...

“As I look back over the last two years of lessons with Coach Ronn, three words come to mind-- patience, enthusiasm, and patience I thank Coach Ronn for improving my game and my ability to be a competitive player.” Leslie Conetta (Area Player of the Year 2006 and 4-year college basketball scholarship.)

"My daughter sat on the bench last year as a freshman at her school in Ohio. I heard about Coach Ronn and arranged for him to tutor Kelly when she came to Sarasota for the summer. She became an excellent defensive player. She went from riding the pine to being a starter on her JV team this year.” Ken Stevens

“After watching the DVD version of this series, I was amazed at how much I did not know about the game. I can not tell you how glad I was to see this DVD. Thanks so much”, Earl

"In the time I have spent coaching children in basketball programs, I have never met anyone with Ronn Wyckoff's rare combination of basketball knowledge, teaching ability, and understanding of life. His teachings of basketball skills, attitude, and sportsmanship are invaluable to the people he instructs." Fred Rolando

“Mr. Wyckoff's enthusiasm and dedication have left a mark here. Already we can see an improvement in our sport. Thank you for your sterling efforts in bringing this off. It is appreciated beyond measure by all basketballers in this country." Zimbabwe Basketball Federation

"I served as a volunteer youth basketball coach in Ronn Wyckoff's YMCA program for several seasons. Ronn conducted a model program; efficient and well organized. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about basketball and his love of the game is contagious. I consider him to be a valuable mentor and consultant." Ron Voit

"Luckily, I was able to meet Ronn Wyckoff. His teaching and mentoring helped me with both control and staying smart during the game. I worked with Ronn for about 2 years. Each time I had a lesson, my skills, both as a player and as a person, increased." Zack Isoma

So,How Much Will This Cost?

Golf and tennis pros charge between $30-60 per HALF hour, locally.

My computer repair guy charges me $80 per hour.

I won't tell you the hourly rate for filming and producing my DVD, but it was in the MANY thousands of $$.

And, my website and marketing gurus--again, thousands of dollars.

You could travel to a coaching clinic or workshop and spend money on transportation, meals and the course, but still not have your questions answered

OR...

You could stay at home, save some money, AND get your questions answered One-On-One!

So,what do I charge? When I tutor high school players locally, my rate is $50 per hour for one player; $75 per hour ($37.50 ea.) if tutoring 2 players at the same time, in the same position.These lessons are position specific and highly detailed, conducted at least once weekly throughout the entire year.

The online, 1-on-1 Coaching the Coach, sessions are available in 1-hour time blocks. Sessions may be purchased in any number of 1-hour time blocks at $60 US per hour.

Depending on the focus of your session(s), purchase of the 4-hr. teaching DVD may be necessary. OR, one or more of the individual  e-Books may be needed. These are like our classroom textbooks. The e-Books were written to support the DVD. These are individual texts, complete with pictures and diagrams, which accompany each of the ten chapters in the DVD.

Sessions and materials may be purchased after we have discussed
everything and agreed on what your individualized program will include.

Allow Me To Introduce Myself

I am Coach Ronn Wyckoff. I consider myself a teacher more than a coach and pay close attention to details in this teaching. My philosophy is, "that a thing done correctly increases the chance of it being done well". Practice doesn't always make perfect. I believe that if we practice something incorrectly, we may get very good at doing that thing incorrectly. Instead, I teach that practice makes permanent.I feel it's very important to learn a skill correctly from the beginning and I spend a lot of time (with a great deal of patience) teaching young basketball players how to undo incorrect practices and teaching coaches correct methods for teaching.

Learning proper techniques that can take a player from whatever level they are to the next level requires more specialization as a player matures. There may well come a time when the parent, youth league coach, or school coach doesn't have the time or the experience to teach proper techniques, be able to break old habits, or develop the player to a higher skill level.

My philosophy of paying attention to details, while teaching basketball fundamentals, defense and discipline, has served the coaches and players I have tutored, as well as my own players and teams, well over the years. Most of my teams consisted of average players, but these teams' winning records were attained because we paid attention to details other coaches weren't teaching. Teaching the "HOW TO's" of individual skills is my specialty

In addition to one-on-one coaching mentoring, I also conduct:

  • Basketball teaching workshops for coaches. I also conduct individualized workshops where I go to a school. There, I will individualize training for that program, where I instruct the coaches while using the players to demonstrate my teaching methods.

  • Private basketball tutoring of position specific skills for high school players focused on playing at the collegiate level.

Parent-Child clinics for youth basketball organizations, where I have the parents going through the same skills as the players.

COACH RONN'S PHILOSOPHIES

On Life: The right thing to do is to do the right thing.

On The game: The will to win is not nearly as important as the will to prepare to win. Winning doesn't just happen. You must set goals. You must prepare. You must be in condition and be disciplined. You must be fundamentally sound and you must play good defense. With these things in place, only then will you be able to perform at your peak. This takes the right attitude and a determined focus. (Focus keeps you on the line and your goal in sight. Attitude determines your speed along the line in reaching your goal.)

We win, regardless of the score, when you play at your peak and execute those things well which you have been taught to do. No more can be asked than that you give your best in both practices and games. If the other team scores more points, and we have given our best, we have not lost. We have no control over how good or how well prepared the other players and teams are. We do have control over how we play and how well we prepare to play. It is a great test of character to have given your best effort and have lost the game.
